RV's on the Road

People who drive buses and heavy duty trucks are professionally trained and drive for a living. State laws require certification to operate these large vehicles. But the RV driver is a different story: most do not drive for a living and have significantly less experience handling a vehicle of that size. Even though recreational vehicles are far more difficult to maneuver than a car, most state laws do not require special driving permits.
An RV or motorhome driver may not be used to the different braking distance and severely limited rear and side vision. Some causes of RV accidents are:
  • Inexperienced drivers
  • Speeding
  • Fatigued driving
  • Rollover caused by higher center gravity
  • Poorly calculated turns
  • Miscalculated stopping distances for heavy vehicles
  • Failure to see a car in the vehicle’s large blind spot
